A Saudi man hosted schoolchildren after their bus broke down near his house, according to a viral social media video.
Heroic Gesture by Saudi Teacher
The footage shows the children disembarking from the bus and heading to the host’s home. The host, a schoolteacher in Al Kharj, southeast of Riyadh, shared his experience.
“After leaving the school at the end of the day, I saw a school bus stopped in front of my house with nearly 50 primary schoolboys,” said teacher Majed Al Enazi, according to the Saudi news portal Sabq.
“I immediately invited them to my home to rest and protect themselves from the blazing sun,” he added. The children later visited a nearby mosque to pray. Al Enazi also contacted the children's parents to reassure them and allowed the boys to speak with their families.
“What I did is a humanitarian duty for any father before being a teacher,” remarked Al Enazi.
He acknowledged the support of some neighbors until a replacement bus arrived to take the children home whose parents could not pick them up.
Community Appreciation
Al Enazi’s gesture received praise from local education authorities. Abdullah Al Zaydai, head of Al Kharj education directorate, described the act as a reflection of “gallantry, lofty morals, and the noble mission of a teacher.”
New School Bus Safety Rules
Schools in Saudi Arabia reopened after the summer holiday last week. In preparation for the new academic year, Saudi transport authorities have set new rules for school bus drivers to ensure student safety.
The Transport General Authority (TGA) stipulates that drivers must be at least 25 years old, hold a valid driving card and licence, have a clear police record, complete an accredited first aid course, pass a TGA medical checkup, and a professional efficiency test.
