Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has suspended eight Umrah service providers, including four companies and four foreign agents, after finding that Umrah pilgrims were accommodated in unlicensed facilities.
Saudi Arabia Takes Action Against Umrah Companies
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said four Saudi Umrah service companies and four foreign Umrah agents were suspended after violations involving the accommodation of pilgrims were detected.
The violations affected several Umrah pilgrims who were reportedly placed in accommodation facilities that did not have the required licenses or approvals.
The ministry referred the suspended companies and agents to the committee responsible for reviewing pilgrim complaints. The committee will investigate the violations and determine the applicable statutory penalties.
Umrah Companies Face Closer Regulatory Monitoring
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said it will continue its field inspections and digital monitoring of Umrah companies, service providers and foreign agents.
The monitoring aims to ensure that all operators comply with approved Umrah regulations and operational requirements. Authorities will also use these monitoring measures to identify violations and take the necessary legal action.
The ministry has previously emphasized that accommodation, transportation and other contracted services must be provided according to approved requirements. Saudi Umrah service controls also require companies to provide essential services, including appropriate accommodation and transportation, as part of approved pilgrim programs.
Foreign Umrah Agents Must Follow Saudi Rules
The ministry stressed that both Saudi Umrah companies and foreign agents have a responsibility to meet their obligations toward pilgrims.
Operators are expected to ensure that the services arranged for Umrah pilgrims comply with Saudi Arabia’s licensing and operational requirements. The latest suspensions highlight the importance of using approved accommodation and fulfilling all contractual commitments made to pilgrims.
Umrah pilgrims have also previously been advised to ensure that their service arrangements are documented and that they deal with licensed Umrah companies. The ministry has emphasized that contracts should clearly specify services such as accommodation and transportation.
Saudi Arabia Strengthens Pilgrim Protection
The latest enforcement action reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued efforts to improve the quality and reliability of services provided to Umrah pilgrims.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reiterated its commitment to taking statutory measures against companies and agents that violate approved rules. The measures are intended to protect pilgrims and support the objectives of the Pilgrim Experience Program, one of the initiatives under Saudi Vision 2030.
With Saudi Arabia continuing to expand and digitize Umrah services, licensed companies and foreign agents are expected to maintain high standards of compliance and ensure that pilgrims receive the services promised to them throughout their stay.
