Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has launched a new digital service that allows GCC nationals and other visitors to complete entry procedures before arriving at the Kingdom’s land border crossings.

The service, called “Absher Travel for Visitors,” is available through the Absher app. According to the ministry, its use will become mandatory six months after the launch.

The service enables travellers to register their personal and vehicle details, obtain vehicle insurance and complete entry requirements electronically before reaching the border. The initiative is intended to reduce the need for travellers to complete these procedures upon arrival.

How to Use the Digital Entry Service

To access the service, visitors must open the Absher app and select the “Absher Travel for Visitors” section. They must then choose their nationality, enter their mobile phone number, select their travel document type, and provide details of their intended border crossing and expected travel date.

Travellers must subsequently enter the required personal, vehicle and insurance information to complete the registration process.

Government Agencies Involved

The initiative was launched in cooperation with several government entities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism, the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), the Insurance Authority, the General Directorate of Passports and Public Security.

Improving Border Procedures

The Ministry of Interior said the service is part of broader efforts to streamline border procedures, expand digital government services and improve the travel experience for visitors entering Saudi Arabia by land.
