Saudi Arabia’s-led military coalition has joined a new Yemen government offensive against the Iran-backed Houthis, deploying 100 warplanes to provide air support for ground forces under Operation Dawn of Yemen.
Saudi-Led Coalition Supports Yemen Offensive
The Saudi-led military coalition announced on Monday that it had joined the Yemeni government’s latest military campaign against the Houthis. The operation aims to help government forces regain territory controlled by the Iran-backed group.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said on X that 100 fighter jets took part in dawn strikes as part of Operation Dawn of Yemen, providing continuous air support to Yemeni armed forces operating on the ground.
324 Houthi Targets Destroyed
The coalition said its forces had destroyed 324 high-value targets in Yemen since the launch of Operation Dawn of Yemen. The air campaign is being conducted alongside ground operations by forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
The latest escalation comes as the Yemeni government seeks to retake territory held by the Houthis and intensify military pressure on the group.
Yemen Government Launches Broad Houthi Campaign
The Yemeni military said it launched a broad series of strikes against Houthi positions on Monday. The offensive follows the internationally recognised government’s announcement of a new campaign aimed at regaining control of all territory held by the Houthis.
The Saudi-led coalition’s involvement marks a major escalation in the military campaign, with air support being used to assist Yemeni forces during ground operations against Houthi positions.
Operation Dawn of Yemen
Operation Dawn of Yemen is the name given to the latest offensive announced by Yemen’s internationally recognised government. The campaign combines ground operations by Yemeni forces with air support from the Saudi-led coalition.
The development represents a renewed effort to push back against the Houthis and change the balance of control in Yemen amid the continuing conflict.
Saudi Arabia and Yemen Conflict
The latest military operation adds to the long-running conflict between Yemen’s internationally recognised government and the Houthi movement. Saudi Arabia has previously supported Yemen government forces through its military coalition as part of efforts to counter the Houthis.
