Three people were killed and 36 injured in separate attacks targeting Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

The two Saudi Arabia airport attacks occurred separately on Tuesday and Wednesday. Emergency response teams and relevant authorities responded immediately in line with established emergency procedures and response plans, GACA said.

Two Killed and 28 Injured at Abha International Airport

The attack on Abha International Airport on Tuesday killed two expatriate women. The victims were identified as a Moroccan woman and an Algerian woman.

Another 28 people, including Saudi citizens and foreign residents, were injured in the attack. Their injuries ranged from serious to minor.

Among the injured foreign residents were one Bangladeshi national and one Filipino national.

The incident follows previous attacks targeting Abha International Airport, highlighting the continuing security concerns surrounding civilian aviation facilities in the Kingdom.

One Killed and Eight Injured at Riyadh Airport

A separate attack targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Wednesday. The incident killed a Sudanese resident and injured eight other people.

The injured included:

  • Five Saudi citizens
  • Two Egyptian residents
  • One Pakistani resident

The injuries ranged from minor to serious, according to GACA.

King Khalid International Airport is one of Saudi Arabia's major aviation hubs and has previously been highlighted in GACA airport performance reports.

All Injured People Taken to Hospitals

GACA said all people injured in the Abha and Riyadh airport attacks were immediately transferred to hospitals for medical treatment.

The authority also confirmed that the attacks caused property damage at the affected airport facilities.

GACA Assesses Airport Damage and Safety

GACA is working with the relevant authorities to assess the damage and verify the safety and security of the affected airport facilities.

The authority said necessary measures are being taken to protect passengers and maintain the security and safety of civil aviation operations across Saudi Arabia.

The latest incidents come shortly after another attack targeted airports in southern Saudi Arabia, with GACA previously reporting three people injured and property damage at airports in Jazan and Najran.

GACA's latest statement on the airport attacks was carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
