Six people, including five female teachers and their driver, were killed in a two-vehicle collision on Saudi Arabia’s Taif-Riyadh highway, prompting the National Transport Safety Center to launch an investigation into the fatal crash.

Six Killed in Taif-Riyadh Highway Accident

The National Transport Safety Center confirmed that it received a report of a collision involving two vehicles on the Taif-Riyadh highway in the Makkah region.

Preliminary information indicated that six people were killed in the accident. The crash occurred on Thursday morning as the teachers were traveling to their workplace.

Five Teachers Were Traveling to School

The five teachers were on their way to Hailan Elementary and Intermediate School, located northwest of Al-Muwayh governorate, when their vehicle was involved in the collision.

The teachers were making a daily journey of more than 400 kilometers round trip to reach the school. According to a relative, one of the teachers was pregnant.

The driver of the vehicle carrying the teachers also died in the crash, bringing the total number of fatalities to six.

Emergency Teams Respond to the Crash

Emergency teams responded to the scene following the Taif-Riyadh highway accident. The victims were subsequently taken to Al-Muwayh Hospital.

Reports said the collision involved the vehicle carrying the teachers and another vehicle. The National Transport Safety Center confirmed the initial death toll while authorities began examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.

National Transport Safety Center Opens Investigation

Following the accident, a safety investigation team from the National Transport Safety Center began its work in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The investigation aims to determine the circumstances and causes of the collision and collect the necessary information, evidence and data related to the accident.

The final findings of the investigation are expected to provide further information about the circumstances that led to the fatal crash on the Taif-Riyadh highway.

Long-Distance Teacher Commutes Highlighted After Crash

The accident has also drawn attention to the long daily journeys undertaken by teachers traveling to schools located far from their residential areas. The five teachers involved in the crash were reportedly covering more than 400 kilometers on their daily round trip to Hailan School.
