Saudi authorities have shut down two stores in the western city of Taif for failing to observe rules in place to stem the spread of the coronavirus, according to a local newspaper.
One store failed to assign an employee to check temperatures of customers before they were allowed inside as part of precautions against COVID-19, online newspaper Sabq said.
Other hygiene violations had also been exposed by local inspectors, it added without details.
Another store in Taif had been closed during an inspection tour launched to ensure compliance with preventive measures against COVID-19, according to the report. The store was found displaying food items past their sale dates, it added.
In recent months, Saudi authorities have stepped up inspection tours of businesses to check their abidance by the anti-coronavirus precautions.
The kingdom so far has recorded a total of 354,208 virus cases and 5,710 related deaths.
