In Saudi Arabia, two expatriates have been apprehended for promoting fraudulent Hajj campaigns on social media, targeting unsuspecting pilgrims. The arrests come as the kingdom intensifies efforts to combat scams ahead of the annual Islamic pilgrimage.

The suspects, both Egyptian residents, allegedly advertised fake accommodation services for Hajj pilgrims in Mecca and Medina, aiming to deceive individuals seeking to fulfill their religious duties. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the offenders, emphasizing the importance of utilizing official channels to ensure the safety and rights of pilgrims.

According to the Ministry of Hajj, obtaining a valid Hajj permit through authorized channels is mandatory for all pilgrims. Failure to adhere to this requirement is considered a serious offense, as highlighted by the Council of Senior Scholars, Saudi Arabia's highest Islamic authority.

To deter illegal pilgrimage activities, Saudi Arabia will impose strict penalties, including fines and deportation, starting from June 2. These measures apply to both Saudi citizens and foreign residents attempting to partake in Hajj without proper authorization.
