The Philippine Consulate in Jeddah on Tuesday confirmed that two Filipinos were killed while three others were wounded in a road accident in the western part of Saudi Arabia last Thursday

In a report, Consul General Edwin Badajos said the Filipinos were on their way to buy food in preparation for the Eid il Ftr celebration when an SUV driven by a Saudi national rammed the vehicle they were in. The accident took place on the last day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Badajos said the victims were all Muslim converts.

The consul general said one of the victims died instantly while the other died in the hospital.

While the investigation is still ongoing, Badajos said the Philippine Consulate is prepared to extend help to the victims in pursuit of a possible case that may be filed against the driver of the SUV.

The Philippine government has conveyed its sympathy and condolences to the families of those who perished in the road accident and assured them of necessary assistance.

In Canada, the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary reported the deaths of a Filipino couple from Lethbridge, Alberta, in an accident along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway on June 10.
