Gunshots were fired near Imran Khan's reception camp in Allahwala Chowk in Gujranwala, local channel Geo News reported.
In Gujranwala in Pakistan's Punjab province, Imran Khan was injured in a shooting during his rally. He was seen bandaged on his right leg and and being moved into an SUV.
Imran Khan was addressing his ongoing “long march” to Islamabad when the attacker fired from below as he stood on top of the container-truck.
About 200 km from Islamabad, the incident occurred nine months after he lost the confidence of the army establishment.
According to news agencies, it brought back chilling memories of the 2007 shooting of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
He had told supporters in another part of Gujranwala, where he was to deliver a speech, that they should accompany him to a different part of the city instead, promising to speak there, Geo reported. His party tweeted a video showing him boarding the container-truck from his black SUV.
After the gunshots rang, chaos broke out near his reception camp at Allahwala Chowk, according to Geo News. At least four party leaders were among those injured, it added.
According to reports, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader was unseated after losing the confidence of the army establishment in April.
