The Ministry of Interior has released the final verdict in the corruption case against Lieutenant General Khalid bin Qarar Al-Harbi, a former Director of Public Security. The ruling follows an investigation by the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha).

Investigation and Court Ruling

After the investigation was initiated by Nazaha, Al-Harbi was referred to the competent court. A final court ruling convicted him of several crimes, including abuse of power, bribery, and forgery.

Al-Harbi has been handed down a 10-year prison sentence for his involvement in bribery and forgery, along with a fine of SR1,000,000, which will be paid to the state treasury.

Dismissal and Royal Decree

This case stems from Royal Decree No. A/60 dated 30/1/1443H, which led to Al-Harbi’s dismissal from service and investigation for multiple violations, including embezzlement, bribery, and abuse of power for personal gain.

Additional Sentences and Seizure of Funds

Al-Harbi received an additional 10-year prison sentence for exploiting government contracts and embezzling public funds.

Alongside the prison sentence and fine, the court has ordered the seizure of bribe payments totaling SR10,084,303 and SR2,827,000 embezzled from public funds, both of which will be returned to the state treasury.

Confiscation of Assets and Further Fines

In addition to the above, the court has mandated the return of gifts and financial aid amounting to SR175,000 that were given to Al-Harbi’s relatives as bribes. Two agricultural lands acquired through criminal activities, along with SR584,000, will also be confiscated and transferred to the state treasury.

Saudi Government’s Commitment to Anti-Corruption

The Ministry of Interior has reiterated the Saudi government’s firm stance on combating corruption and protecting public funds. This case stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability within public institutions.
