Record Growth in Passenger Numbers
Saudi Arabia-based low-cost carrier flynas has announced a significant milestone for the first half of 2024, reporting a 47% increase in passenger numbers, reaching over 7 million. This remarkable growth is accompanied by a 37% rise in seat capacity for both domestic and international flights compared to the previous year, according to the airline's statement. This achievement follows flynas' major acquisition of 160 Airbus Neo jets at the Farnborough International Airshow, UK.
Fleet Expansion and Job Creation
In 2024, flynas took delivery of six A320neo aircraft, reinforcing its operations and creating hundreds of new jobs for Saudis. The addition of 25 new A320neo aircraft over the past 18 months has expanded the airline's fleet to 60. Additionally, the airline has launched a new batch of applications for its Future Pilots program, aiming to fully nationalize the co-pilot position.
Strategic Growth and National Vision
Bander Almohanna, CEO and Managing Director of flynas, attributed the airline's record performance to its strategic growth plans. "Our strategic growth plans drive our record performance during the first half of 2024 as we continue to upgrade our fleet, increase capacity, and expand our global network," Almohanna stated. The airline’s strategy, ‘We Connect the World to the Kingdom,’ aligns with the National Civil Aviation Strategy, which aims to connect Saudi carriers with 250 international destinations, accommodate 330 million passengers, and host 100 million tourists annually by 2030.
Commitment to Tourism and Future Programs
Almohanna also emphasized flynas's commitment to supporting the tourism sector and achieving the goals set by Saudi Vision 2030. The increase in seat capacity for domestic summer destinations reflects this commitment. In international markets, flynas has expanded its presence through partnerships with other airlines. Additionally, the airline’s future engineers program has accepted 22 Saudis into its second batch at the beginning of this year.
Operational Achievements
flynas operates over 1,800 weekly flights to more than 70 domestic and international destinations. Since its launch in 2007, the airline has transported over 78 million passengers.
