The crash occurred when a microbus carrying the expatriate workers overturned at a place on King Abdul Aziz Road between Summary Court and Red Sea Mall early in the morning on Wednesday local time, the Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah said in a statement.
One of the dead Bangladeshis is identified as Md Monirul Islam from Narail.
The consulate was trying to identify the others, Mostafa Jamil Khan, an official at the consulate, said.
Seven of the injured are Md Israfl Sheikh and Md Kabir Sheikh from Narail, Md Elahi from Magura, Sujon Ahmed from Sylhet, Mohammad Shahjahan Mia from Habiganj, and Md Rubel Islam and Imam Hossain from Cumilla.
The consulate said the 16 Bangladeshis were travelling from Jeddah’s Gulail to Abhor when their microbus with a Pakistani driver turtled after hitting a police car.
Earlier, an official at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh put the death toll at six.
The victims were on their way to a factory on a minibus, Mobarak Hossain, a Jeddah-based migrant worker, told bdnews24.com by phone, citing one of the injured people.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and it hit a roadside electricity pole when a tire had burst, Hossain said.
