Saudi Arabia's General Directorate of Traffic (Moroor) has confirmed that emergency vehicles must be given priority. People who fail to give priority to emergency vehicles in the Kingdom are violating the traffic law.
According to Saudi Moroor, such violations will be fined 1,000 to 2,000 riyals. In accordance with Article 54 of the Traffic Law, emergency vehicles, official processions, and emergency convoy vehicles have priority passage while performing their missions.
Earlier this week, the Your Safety Initiative platform emphasized the importance of giving way to emergency vehicles. The assistance of emergency vehicles and clearing the way may save a life.
When dealing with emergency vehicles, the platform recommends giving way to the left lane, if the road is not congested. On a two-lane road, people move to the far right or left when there is congestion. In roads with lanes or more, vehicles move in the right and middle lanes to the far right, and in the left lane to the far left.
- The Saudi Moroor clarified that when emergency vehicles and official processions are heard, the driver of the vehicle at the crossroads or intersection of roads must immediately vacate his position to allow those vehicles to pass without the slightest obstruction, according to Article 54/8 of the Traffic Law.
One of the Saudi nationals asked, Would you record a violation if the traffic car was not cleared.
When standing at a traffic light, the driver must give way safely to allow the emergency vehicle to pass the intersection, without following or overtaking it.
