Strict Traffic Laws In Saudi Arabia: Up To 4 Years In Prison And SR 200,000 Fine For Violations
Category: Traffic

In Saudi Arabia, the Public Prosecution is cracking down on severe consequences of traffic violations, imposing strict legal measures. Motorists found responsible for accidents due to infringement and negligence can face up to four years in prison and fines of SR 200,000.

The Public Prosecution underscores the illegality of traffic accidents resulting from violations or reckless behavior, emphasizing the need for legal accountability. The stricter penalties aim to address accidents leading to death, loss of a body organ, or impairment of its function.

Official statistics reveal a positive trend, with major accidents in Saudi Arabia decreasing by 6.8% in 2022, totaling around 17,000 accidents compared to over 18,000 in 2021. The Ministerial Committee of Traffic Safety reports a 2.1% decrease in the percentage of deaths resulting from car accidents.

However, the number of damaged vehicles has seen a significant increase of 28%, reaching 1.8 million accidents in 2022 compared to 1.4 million in 2021. Despite this, there is a 2.7% decrease in the number of injuries, with 24,000 recorded in 2022 compared to over 25,000 in 2021.
