The Saudi winter season is expected to generate SR5 billion as the kingdom is vigorously seeking to boost its tourism industry, a travel expert has said

“The Saudi Winter [festival] comes this week after big success of the Saudi Summer,| Hani Al Emiri, a member of the Saudi Committee for Travel and Tourism, added.

“It is expected to attract over 1.5 million people during the next two months,” he said, according to the Saudi newspaper Okaz.

The ongoing winter festival, scheduled to run until late April, covers 18 destinations across Saudi Arabia.

“During winter, there are multiple tourism destinations in the kingdom that records a significant increase in the numbers of visitors,” Al Emiri said.

He cited destinations such as cities of Tabuk, Al Ula, the Eastern Province, Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Qassim, and variety of attractions in the kingdom including historical and cultural sites as well as entertainment programmes.

“Recovery will comprise tourism-related sectors such as transport, restaurants, entertainment activities and beaches,” he said.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has sought to diversify its oil-reliant economy under an ambitious development scheme.
