To mark World Environment Day 2018, the General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection (PME) has launched on its website a test version of a Gulf standards index measuring air quality in various parts of the Kingdom.
The initiative is part of the PME’s “relentless efforts to monitor environmental protection activities with a high degree of transparency,” said Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, the authority’s vice president for environmental affairs. The index covers some 45 locations throughout the Kingdom around the clock, and will give air-quality readings in six colors, he added.
The index “also helps track pollutants and contaminants by measuring elements affecting health, namely carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone gas, sulfur dioxide and dust particles,” Al-Ansari added.
