Category: Crime News

In recent news, Saudi customs authorities have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle nearly 932,980 Captagon pills concealed within a shipment of pomegranates. This operation took place at the Saudi Duba port as part of the kingdom's intensified efforts to combat narcotics smuggling. Two individuals involved in this drug bust were apprehended, signaling a significant victory in Saudi Arabia's ongoing battle against drug trafficking.

Saudi customs authorities have achieved a major victory in their relentless fight against narcotics smuggling, recently intercepting a significant drug haul hidden within a seemingly innocent shipment of pomegranates. The contraband, consisting of approximately 932,980 Captagon pills, was uncovered at the Saudi Duba port. This operation represents a crucial step in the ongoing efforts of the Saudi Zaka, Tax and Customs Authority (Zatca) to safeguard the kingdom from the scourge of drug trafficking.

The successful bust was a result of rigorous customs procedures performed on cargo arriving from outside Saudi Arabia. Within the cavities of the pomegranates, customs officials discovered the illicit drugs cleverly concealed. Two individuals who were poised to receive the drug shipment were swiftly apprehended, though the exact origin of the shipment and the time of the attempted smuggling have not been disclosed by Zatca.

In recent months, Saudi Arabia has intensified its crackdown on narcotics smuggling, consistently thwarting various smuggling attempts. Notably, just earlier this month, Saudi customs officials intercepted two separate attempts to smuggle 1.3 kilograms of heroin concealed within the bodies of air travelers arriving in the kingdom. These operations were successfully executed at both the King Abdulaziz airport in Jeddah and the King Khaled airport in Riyadh, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.

In a previous case last month, Saudi customs authorities revealed their successful interception of an attempt to smuggle 114.9 kilograms of hashish at a border crossing with Oman. The illicit haul had been concealed within a pick-up truck traveling to the kingdom through the Empty Quarter border crossing.

In a remarkable operation announced in August, Zatca disclosed the interception of 2.2 million Captagon pills concealed within a cargo of baklava desserts at the Jeddah port. Two individuals linked to this smuggling attempt were apprehended.

In yet another collaborative effort in July, Saudi Arabia's anti-drug police, working alongside their Omani counterparts, thwarted an audacious attempt to smuggle over 6 million amphetamine pills. The contraband was cunningly hidden within a shipment of pastry, citrus, and nuts.

It is crucial to emphasize that drug smuggling and trafficking in Saudi Arabia are considered grave offenses, punishable by the harshest penalties, including the possibility of the death penalty.
