Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman on Wednesday ordered referring those who are in connection with the rising incidents of fire in the Riyadh region to judiciary, Saudi Press Agency said.
The order comes after the results of examination, investigation and recommendations, which were submitted by the competent field team, pointed out to suspicion of financial and administrative corruption behind increasing fire incidents.
The Crown Prince instructed the Riyadh Region emirate in cooperation with the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority to examine the issue in order to bring those proven to be involved to justice.
The preliminary investigations indicated the suspicion of financial and administrative corruption and the non-compliance of owners of commercial establishments with the requirements necessary to practice commercial activities issued by the relevant authorities.
The Crown Prince also directed the setting up of a committee comprising representatives of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing and the Civil Defence to define the inspection tasks assigned to each agency and submit its report within five days.
He also assigned the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Civil Defence and the Supreme Authority for Industrial Security, and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, to re-study the safety requirements and activities that are permitted to be practiced in inhabited areas.
It has also been directed to criminalize violators of the regulations of the regulatory authorities, and make mandatory insurance for commercial activities against accidents.
The Crown Prince also directed relevant authorities to re-examine requirements for practicing business activities and hold accountable negligent officials as well as owners of commercial activities who commit violations, and take the necessary penal actions against them in accordance with the provisions of the regulations and instructions issued by the Anti-Corruption Authority.
