Category: Crime News

Saudi authorities have arrested three expatriates in connection with a sophisticated online vehicle-sales scam involving fake car listings, fraudulent work visas, and illegal transfers of victim funds abroad.

What Happened

The suspects, of Bangladeshi and Syrian nationalities, allegedly created fake digital platforms advertising vehicles they did not own at prices well below market value to lure unsuspecting buyers.

They also purportedly issued fraudulent work visas to bolster the legitimacy of their operations and funnelled money overseas through illegal channels.

How the Scheme Operated

  • Fake car listings on bespoke or cloned websites claiming discounted prices.
  • Use of fraudulent work visas and forged documents to create appearance of trust.
  • Overseas servers and digital infrastructure to hide traces of the fraud.
  • Illegal money transfers abroad to avoid detection.

Law Enforcement Response

Riyadh Police described the operation as “sophisticated and well-coordinated”. Key elements that helped authorities crack the case included:

  • Swift investigations following victim complaints.
  • International cooperation to trace cross-border financial flows.
  • Digital forensics tracing back to overseas servers.

Impact & Significance

This case highlights rising risks to consumers amid growing online fraud in Saudi Arabia. It underscores governmental resolve to protect residents and clamp down on emerging scams, especially those involving cross-border financial crimes.
