Saudi Arabia is planning to establish a centre to protect underwater cultural heritage in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.
The initiative was announced by Saudi Culture Minister Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan during an online meeting of the Group of 20 that the kingdom is currently presiding over.
The facility is part of the kingdom’s large-range efforts to preserve its natural heritage, the official added.
He also called for giving cultural economy a place on the international political agenda and related cooperation to open up fresh prospects for global economy.
“The high-level cultural presence at the G20 summit that the kingdom is chairing highlights shared belief in the importance of the role of culture in stimulating the innovation ecosystem for economies,” Prince Badr said. “We shoulder responsibility for preserving our shared heritage for the future generations,” the official added, according to the Saudi news agency SPA.
The G20 culture ministers pledged to support global cultural economy at annual meetings to be held on the sidelines of the bloc’s summits.
