Saudi Arabia Implements New Health And Safety Rules For Barbershops To Enhance Public Hygiene
Category: Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has introduced new health regulations for barbershops, set to take effect in 180 days. The updated rules, including bans on tanning beds and tattoo equipment, aim to raise hygiene standards and ensure a safer grooming environment.

Key Aspects of the New Barbershop Regulations

The new regulations primarily focus on improving sanitation in barbershops:

  • Sterilization Mandates: Barbershops must now install sterilization devices to sanitize tools after every use.
  • Prohibition on Reusing Razors: Single-use razors are now required, with the reuse of shaving razors banned for hygiene.
  • Approved Products Only: Only Saudi Food and Drug Authority-approved products are permitted for use.

Goals of the Regulatory Changes

According to a Ministry spokesperson, these regulations reflect the government's commitment to modernize and enhance the grooming industry while fostering a clean and organized urban setting. They also aim to attract investments in this sector by ensuring a more reliable and health-focused environment.

Additional Health and Safety Measures

The guidelines also address conduct and safety protocols for barbers:

  • Health Guidelines for Workers: Barbers displaying symptoms of illness are prohibited from working, and all workers must avoid touching their nose or mouth during services.
  • Salon Hygiene Rules: Eating and drinking within the salon premises are strictly prohibited to maintain cleanliness.
  • Entry Restrictions: Women are allowed to enter barbershops only under specific circumstances, adhering to set protocols.
