There have been 168 divorce cases in Saudi Arabia every day, an average of seven cases per hour, according to local media.

According to Al Youm newspaper, the Saudi General Authority for Statistics has revealed that “57,595 divorce decrees were issued during the last few months of 2020, a 12.7 percent increase compared to 2019, with social media platforms playing an important role.

In 2011, there were 34,000 divorce cases, up from just 9,233 in 2010, according to Saudi lawyer Dakhil Al Dakhil. In 2020, divorce cases reached 57,000, continuing to rise. There are seven divorce cases in the Kingdom every hour, according to this year's reports.

As well as the growing complexities of life and the high cost of living, Al Dakhil attributed the increasing number of divorces in Saudi society to the COVID-10 pandemic, which began in 2019. In addition to social media platforms, which played an important role in ruining Saudi families as well as Arab families in general, this caused a noticeable increase in prices.
