Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) have banned the import of vehicles from 20 automakers into the Kingdom. This action follows the failure of these automakers to submit their supply plans for the current year, 2024, within the specified timeframe.
Import Ban Details
Saudi automobile agents are temporarily prohibited from importing new light vehicles, weighing not more than 3.5 tons, from the affected automakers until these companies provide their 2024 supply plans. The deadline for submission is the end of the current year. MAWANI will publish the list of these automakers on the unified electronic portal for energy efficiency.
Compliance and Regulations
The technical regulations mandate that automakers must register their supply plans for vehicles and tires. The Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization reviews these plans before approval and notifies companies electronically or in writing about any observations or required changes.
Previous Non-Compliance
Last year, the Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization reported that 21 vehicle manufacturing companies failed to submit their supply plans within the specified period.
