The King Abdulaziz City for Technical Sciences announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ranked first in the Arab world in terms of the number of satellites .
King Abdulaziz City, through its official Twitter account said that the Kingdom seeks through its forward-looking in the space field, to create a strong and sustainable national space sector, to transfer and localize space technologies in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
- The Saudi satellite 17th 'Shaheen Sat' is a continuation of the Kingdom's leadership in the field of space, and a continuation of the achievements achieved by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in the field of space, as it launched 17 satellites from 2000 to 2021.
- 'Shaheen Sat' was launched on Monday along with several others from 18 different countries aboard the Russian Soyuz rocket, 'Shaheen Sat' is one of the 2 satellites designed and made in Saudi Arabia, it will be used for photography and maritime tracking purposes.
- The other satellite, 'CubeSat' has been designed by King Saud University (KSU) for educational use, the university is the first in the Kingdom to launch a satellite into space, The cube-shaped satellite has 10 centimeter dimensions and weighs about 1 kg.
- It also participated in the implementation of scientific experiments in space in cooperation with the American Space Agency "NASA" and Stanford University on board the moon (Saudi Sat 4) in 2014, in addition to its participation in the (Chang'e 4) moon exploration trip mission in cooperation with the Chinese Space Agency in 2018 on a rare mission to explore the unseen side of the Moon.
