Beginning May 4, 2024, entry into Makkah for citizens and resident expatriates of Saudi Arabia mandates a permit from authorities, as per Hajj 2024 regulations enforced by the General Directorate of Public Security.
Security checkpoints along the route to Makkah will enforce this regulation, denying entry to those without permits and facilitating the return of unauthorized vehicles and residents.
Permits are essential for accessing workplaces in Holy Sites, Makkah households, and for performing Hajj and Umrah, aimed at enhancing security measures during the Hajj season.
To enter Makkah, individuals must present one of the following:
1. Entry permit for Holy Site employment issued by competent authority.
2. Iqama (Resident permit) issued in Makkah.
3. Hajj or Umrah permit.
Visa issuance for Hajj 2024 commenced on March 1, 2024, concluding on April 29, 2024. International pilgrims are anticipated to arrive in the Kingdom from May 9, 2024, with Hajj slated to begin on June 14, subject to confirmation by the Saudi Arabia moon sighting commission.
