A Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense official has been arrested by police for alleged corruption, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Tuesday.
The case involved suspicious financial transactions with a commercial company by a Ministry of Defense official.
Investigation revealed that the suspect confessed that he received US$266,600 from a company. Two others involved in the case were also arrested.
The report did not name those involved, though the statement from prosecutors described the bribery as being over a contract between the Defense Ministry and a commercial company.
The report quoted Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah al-Muajab calling the bribery plot a “betrayal of trust.”
The case is among Saudi Arabia’s measures to fight corruption, thus demonstrating the country’s ambitious plans to promote its investment and business environment.
