A man accused in a hit-and-run death in Portland, Oregon is now believed to have escaped to Saudi Arabia.

“Something more has to be done so other children aren’t harmed and other mothers have a chance to say I love you,” said Fawn Lengvenis, the mother of Fallon Smart, who was hit and killed.

Speaking to Portland City Council in 2016, weeks after her daughter was killed by a hit and run driver, Lengvenis pleaded to make roads safer.

The driver accused of hitting and killing the 15-year-old is Saudi citizen Abdulrahman N.

Police say the then 20-year-old Saudi was speeding and driving recklessly when the teenager tried to cross the street and he hit her.

Then, cops say he left the scene for a while before eventually coming back.

Nine months would go by before police say he removed his electronic monitoring device and they asked the public for help tracking him down.

At the time, they had feared he had experienced a mental health issue as he awaited a trial.

Now a year and a half later, officials with the U.S. Marshals Service say they’ve learned he is in Saudi Arabia and they want to find out who helped him get there.

Abdulrahman was last known to be in this newer black GMC Yukon XL on June 10, 2017, when he was picked up near southeast 106 and Division in Portland, according to investigators.

Officials said the plates appear to be either out of state or a dealer placard and they suspect this may be a limo service or rental vehicle.

Requests were made by the Department of Homeland Security investigations division for additional information to Saudi officials regarding Abdulrahman’s inbound flight arrival to the kingdom and those requests have gone unanswered.

The US does not have an extradition treaty with Saudi Arabia.

The US Marshals service says it is working with homeland security and the office of international affairs to get Abdulrahman back to the US for trial.
