The King Salman Humanitarian Aid And Relief Center (KSRelief) held a training session in Marib for parents of children recruited by Houthi militia and who have been used as human shields in armed conflict.
The aim of the course is to raise awareness among parents about the dangers of recruiting children and how this would affect their present and future.
The awareness-raising course is part of an initial phase of the fifth and sixth stages of the Rehabilitation of Recruiting Children Project, which has targeted 80 child soldiers and their dependents.
“Its main goal is to facilitate the return of children to their normal lives and to attend school, as do normal children,” KSRelief was reported saying by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The participating parents received awareness lectures on the dangers of recruitment, violations against children during recruitment and the duty to protect them, as well as legislation that is criminalizing the recruitment and endangerment of young people.
KSRelief funds the rehabilitation of children recruited by Houthi militia, in coordination with a local partner — Wathaq Foundation for Civil Orientation — in accordance with a program aimed at rehabilitating 2,000 children from various Yemeni governorates.
