Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir discussed with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov a number of regional issues including Yemen and Syria here on Wednesday.

“We have agreed with Russia to coordinate and consult on all developments in the region,” Jubeir said in a joint press conference with Lavrov.

He said that Saudi Arabia “seeks to strengthen trade relations with Russia and coordinate with them politically”.

“We consult with Russia on the situation in Yemen and the efforts made by the UN envoy to Yemen,” Jubeir told reporters.

“We also discussed the Syria situation with the Russian side and the need to implement UN resolutions.”

Lavrov also confirmed that Russia is coordinating with Riyadh regarding a potential visit by President Vladimir Putin to Saudi Arabia soon.

Relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia are actively developing and coordination on regional affairs has reached a high level, Lavrov said.

“Thank you for accepting our invitation,” the Russian top diplomat stressed.

Lavrov added that they consider it necessary to continue their dialogue and see how they are advancing in the implementation of the agreements that were reached when Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman visited Russia in October 2017.

“Our bilateral relations are rapidly developing in all areas. Our coordination and sharing views on international and regional affairs are also at a very good level,” Lavrov said.

“I’m confident that today’s conversation will be useful in terms of supporting the high development rates of our cooperation in all areas,” the Russian foreign minister stressed.

Moscow and Riyadh have agreed to build ties in all spheres, he said.
