A road crash in Jizan, Saudi Arabia's south-western region, has killed six people, including five members of one family.

This tragedy claimed the lives of a man, his wife, their three daughters, as well as a relative's child.

On Wednesday, a seventh person was injured in the accident. They were on their way to visit the wife's ill mother when their car collided with another.

According to witnesses, the other car was driving in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.

A nephew survived the accident and is in stable condition in the hospital.

Several deadly accidents have been reported in Saudi media in recent weeks.

Cost of accidents is SR11.7 billion

In Saudi Arabia's western city of Taif, six people were killed and another injured in a road accident last Sunday.

A car collision occurred on a road connecting Taif and Al Bahah in the south west of the kingdom.

Two cars collided in Al Qunfudah a day earlier, killing four and injuring two others.

During the Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca last month, 21 Umrah pilgrims died and 29 were injured when their bus flipped over in the Asir region in south-western Saudi Arabia.

A married couple and their four children were killed in a road accident while returning from the capital Riyadh to Jizan after spending the school holidays in the capital.

In Saudi Arabia, traffic accidents cost SR11.7 billion.

There were around 9,420 accidents in the kingdom's cities last year, compared with 7,542 outside. A total of 4,555 people died as a result of these accidents.

To reduce traffic accidents, Saudi authorities have increased penalties for traffic offenses in recent years.
