Salama Cooperative Insurance Company announced the appointment of a licensed loss assessor to evaluate the damages caused by a devastating fire that erupted at the Jeddah International Market on September 29. The insurance company communicated the news through a statement on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul).

On September 29, a massive fire broke out in one of Jeddah’s oldest markets, located near Madinah Road in the Al-Rawdah district. Salama Cooperative Insurance received notification of the fire on Sunday and confirmed that their policy is reinsured with reinsurers, adhering to relevant regulations.

Impact of the Fire

The fire caused significant destruction, leading to the collapse of the market façade and devastating many shops and outlets. Tragically, two Civil Defense soldiers lost their lives while battling the blaze. The Civil Defense Directorate reported that their personnel worked tirelessly for nearly 14 hours to extinguish the fire, utilizing over 20 firefighting and rescue units from Jeddah and Makkah to control the rapidly spreading flames.

Established in 1981, the Jeddah International Market is one of the oldest shopping malls in the region and the first closed market in Jeddah. The complex is well-known for its wide array of shops, including perfumes, watches, jewelry, clothing, electronics, boutiques, and restaurants. Many shops and stalls were tragically destroyed in the fire.
