Heavy Rain And Flash Floods Hit Al-Qassim, Eastern Province, Riyadh, And More Saudi Regions
Category: Weather

A recent deluge of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash floods wreaked havoc across several regions of Saudi Arabia, including Al-Qassim, Eastern Province, Riyadh, and Madinah. The downpour caused road inundations, vehicle submersions, and disruptions to daily life, prompting precautionary measures such as the suspension of in-person classes in affected areas.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued a "red alert" for Al-Qassim, Eastern Province, Riyadh, and Madinah, warning of severe weather conditions characterized by heavy rain, strong winds, reduced visibility, hailstorms, torrents, and lightning.

In response to the adverse weather conditions, emergency teams in the Eastern Province took swift action to close tunnels, bridges, and main thoroughfares to ensure public safety. Additionally, authorities urged residents to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and adhere to official directives.

While Riyadh experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, resulting in localized street flooding, traffic disruptions remained manageable. Education departments in the Eastern Province and Riyadh opted to transition in-person classes to remote learning platforms, prioritizing the safety of students and staff.

Looking ahead, the National Center of Meteorology forecasts continued thunderstorms with the potential for torrential rains, hail showers, and gusty winds across various regions, including Najran, Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Riyadh, Al-Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, and the northern and eastern borders. Additionally, fog formation is anticipated in select coastal and inland areas.
