A proposal is under study to open a fast lane on the King Fahd Causeway linking Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
Passengers wishing to fast-track travel procedures would be allowed to use the special lane, pending payment of SR500 or more for businessmen, Akhbar24 reports
King Fahd Causeway Authority director-general Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Daoud unveiled the move during the monthly meeting at the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce.
He unveiled plans to reduce fees levied on vehicles which cross the causeway between Saudi and Bahrain outside the peak hours as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion.
He announced that technical and commercial feasibility studies into the new parallel causeway between Saudi and Bahrain would be submitted next week.
The Saudi official said that the planned projects would be opened to foreign investments, based on profits and technological knowhow.
