For the fourth month in a row, 700 Saudi resident physicians, hired by the Health Ministry’s hospitals in Mecca and other cities, have not been paid their salaries, because they are yet to be registered on the ministry’s payroll, local media reported.
A number of doctors told Okaz they have been working alongside their colleagues in government hospitals in all regions, after they signed contracts with health departments, as doctors in training for a fixed monthly payment.
The resident doctors said the contracts stipulated that they be trained in hospitals to obtain a Saudi specialty certificate in general surgery for a period of five years, and a salary will be paid to them, including a transportation and a sabbatical allowance.
The physicians said they were left in the lurch over their unpaid salaries and were unable to support their families, pay their bills or pay back their loans.
