Expatriates in Saudi Arabia can now update their passport information through their employer's Absher platform account for a fee of SR69, including VAT. This online service eliminates the need to visit the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) offices in person, streamlining the process for both employees and employers.
Eligibility and Requirements
This service is available to expatriates aged 18 and above who have recently renewed their passports. To access the service:
- Employers must log in to Absher.
- Go to My Services > Passports > Resident Identity Services.
- Select Update Resident Passport Information.
- Upload a clear photo of the new passport (the system reads passport number and expiry date automatically).
The expatriate must confirm via an undertaking that:
- The previous passport is not lost.
- There are no 'absence from work' reports.
- There are no traffic violations on the iqama.
- No security restrictions exist on both employer and employee.
- Both parties are alive and in good health.
Limitations and Conditions
The passport update service through Absher can be used for one worker only once every five years. For additional updates or if another passport is issued within that period, the expatriate must visit the Jawazat office in person.
Other conditions include:
- If the previous passport is lost, an in-person visit is mandatory.
- Anyone misusing this service (e.g., updating a lost passport online) will be held accountable.
- If the old passport includes family members who now have separate passports, an in-person visit is required for updates.
- The individual who completes the service is fully responsible for the authenticity of the data.
Related Absher Services and Charges
Absher Business platform also introduced updated charges for several services:
- Exit and Reentry Visa Extension: SR103.5
- Iqama Renewal: SR51.75
- Final Exit: SR70
- Issuance of Iqama: SR51.75
- Employee Report Request: SR28.75
- Passport Information Update: SR69
These fees are considered value-added services under Absher and are not included in the employer’s subscription packages.
Streamlined Process for Expatriates
With this update, expatriates and employers can save time and reduce paperwork by avoiding physical visits to Jawazat. The new Absher feature aligns with Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation initiatives.
