Saudi Arabia Weather Alert: Week-Long Dust Storms To Hit Major Cities, NCM Warns Of Low Visibility
Category: Weather

Saudi Arabia braces for a week-long dust storm, with the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issuing alerts for several regions including Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and parts of Mecca, Medina, and Asir. Residents are advised to prepare for reduced visibility and respiratory risks due to sand-laden winds sweeping across the Kingdom.

Dust Storms to Sweep Across Eastern and Western Regions

According to the NCM's latest weather bulletin, active winds carrying dust will persist across the Eastern Province, and eastern parts of Mecca, Medina, and Asir. The Najran region and coastal routes from Jeddah to Jazan are also forecast to experience significant dust activity throughout the week.

Riyadh and Neighboring Areas Under Dust Storm Watch

The capital city Riyadh will be affected between 5 AM and 5 PM, with dust impacting nearby governorates like Diriyah, Al Kharj, Al Hariq, Al Dalam, Al Muzahmiyya, and Hawtah Bani Tamim.

Other parts of the Riyadh region including Al Dawadmi, Al Rayn, Al Quwayiyah, and Afif will see increased dust levels from 10 AM to 7 PM. Southern areas such as Al Sulayyil, Wadi Al Dawasir, and Al Aflaj will face dusty conditions as early as 1 AM.

Visibility to Drop Significantly

The NCM warned that horizontal visibility may drop to 3–5 kilometers in affected areas, potentially causing traffic disruptions and poor air quality.

Additional Areas on Alert

The ongoing unstable weather patterns may extend the dust storm impact to Northern Borders, Al Jouf, Hail, Al Qassim, and additional parts of Riyadh.

Health and Safety Advisory

Saudi authorities have urged citizens and residents, especially individuals with respiratory conditions, to remain indoors when possible and keep track of official NCM updates.

Precautionary Measures During Dust Storms

  • Limit outdoor activities, especially for children and elderly people.
  • Wear face masks to reduce dust inhalation.
  • Keep windows and doors closed to prevent dust from entering homes.
  • Follow the latest alerts from the National Centre of Meteorology.
