Saudi Arabia Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Storms, And Flood Risk Across Regions This Week
Category: Weather

Saudi Arabia is set to experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flash floods throughout the week, according to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), raising weather alerts across multiple regions including Makkah, Asir, Jazan, and Riyadh.

Severe Weather Forecast Across Saudi Arabia

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has predicted rainfall of varying intensity across most regions of the Kingdom through Saturday. The forecast is based on advanced Saudi numerical weather models, indicating unstable weather conditions.

Authorities warned that the rain may be accompanied by winds reaching up to 60 km/h, hailstorms, and high waves in coastal areas, increasing the risk of flash floods in low-lying regions.

Regions Expected to Be Affected

Sunday: The Onset of Rain

Rainfall is expected to begin Sunday evening across:

  • Makkah
  • Asir
  • Al Baha
  • Medina
  • Qassim
  • Northern Borders

The heaviest rainfall is forecast over Taif, areas near Hafr Al Batin, and regions between Medina and Qassim.

Monday: Continued Heavy Rain

Conditions will briefly ease overnight but heavy rain will return to central Makkah. Moderate to heavy showers are expected across southwestern regions including Jazan, Asir, and Makkah before shifting toward Riyadh and the Eastern Province by evening.

Tuesday: Temporary Improvement, Then a Return of Rain

Rainfall will mostly subside by Tuesday morning, with light showers in western Riyadh. However, rain is expected to redevelop by evening in southern regions such as Najran, Asir, and Makkah.

Wednesday to Thursday: The clouds are moving northward.

Light to moderate rain will continue into Wednesday, intensifying over Asir, Najran, and Jazan. The weather system will gradually shift northward toward Tabuk, Al Jouf, and the Northern Borders by Thursday morning.

Friday and Saturday: A New Wave of Rain

Rainfall is expected to intensify again across southwestern regions, including Jazan, Asir, and Makkah, extending to Medina and Qassim. By Saturday, conditions will improve slightly, although scattered showers may persist, followed by another round of moderate to heavy rain later in the day.

Safety Warning: Flash Flood and Strong Wind Risks

Authorities have urged residents to stay alert as severe weather conditions may lead to flash floods, reduced visibility, and hazardous road conditions. Coastal areas may also experience high waves due to strong winds.
