The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has lifted the suspension regarding the use of the national identity card as a valid document for travel into and out of Saudi Arabia for Saudi citizens as well as citizens of other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
Saudi citizens can travel to the GCC countries using their national identity cards, according to Jawazat. It urged them to verify the requirements for entry into the GCC country they wanted to visit. According to the Jawazat, the family registry card is not a valid document for travel to and from GCC states.
As a result of the outbreak of Coronavirus in February 2020, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs suspended the use of national ID cards by citizens of the GCC for traveling into and out of the Kingdom. Saudi citizens traveling to and from the GCC states have also been subject to the same restrictions. During the Coronavirus pandemic period, Gulf citizens traveling within the GCC states were required to carry passports.
