The Health Directorate in Jeddah has denied in a statement the reports about an outbreak of scabies in  schools in Jeddah. The statement added that constant monitoring of schools in coordination with the Education Department and the Public Health Administration is underway to rule out any possibility of such an outbreak.

”In the event of discovering any case, immediate steps will be taken to prevent the spread of the infection besides providing preventive health services and treatment. Health awareness programs have also been beefed up,” the statement said.

The health directorate added that the treatment of scabies includes making the patient and his relatives aware of the ways of transmitting the disease and how to sterilize clothes and other materials to reduce its spread to his family members in addition to following the instructions of   the doctor treating the patient and those who interact with him, Al-Madinah reported.

In a related development, the Health Affairs and Education Administration in Madinah said two girl students in a school in the province were suspected to be suffering from scabies. The two departments also set up an emergency team to sterilize all schools.
