The General Directorate of Prisons released the first batch of prisoners as a part of a clemency program supported by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Taif Prison Director Lt. Gen. Saeed Al-Ajab said the released prisoners were not sentenced for any major crimes.
“They were sentenced in cases involving legal rights. The King and the Crown Prince paid the prisoners’ bail and they were immediately released.” said Al-Ajab.
The Makkah Prisons Directorate has formed a committee to execute the King’s orders in a timely and orderly fashion, he added.
The friends and families of the released prisoners were overjoyed by the news. They thanked the King and the Crown Prince for their generosity and kindness.
