Justice Minister, Higher Judiciary Council President Shaikh Walid Al-Samaani has eased legal measures for Saudi divorcees to enjoy the custody rights.
Divorce women will not be forced anymore to lodge lawsuits to obtain the legal custody of their children – unless the estranged parents are entangled in legal disputes.
Under a circuit by the minister to all courts, divorced mothers can simply submit a request to the relevant court, without the need for legal action.
The circular also entitles divorced mothers to carry out all formalities related to her children at government departments, as well as embassies, education offices, and schools.
They are also legally entitled to apply for and collect their children’s passports, collect all child support and maintenance from government and civil entities.
Saudi divorced mothers still don’t have the right to travel with their children outside the country without an official permit issued by a judge.
