Can You Get an Exit Re-Entry Visa for More Than a Year? Jawazat Explains

The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) in Saudi Arabia has clarified the rules regarding the issuance and extension of exit and re-entry visas for residents. Many residents wonder whether it is possible to obtain an exit re-entry visa valid for more than a year. Here's everything you need to know.

Issuing an Exit Re-Entry Visa for More Than One Year

A beneficiary recently contacted the Jawazat to ask if they could issue an exit re-entry visa that extends beyond one year.

In response, the General Directorate of Passports explained that a resident’s Iqama (residency permit) must be valid for the entire intended period of travel if the visa duration exceeds one year.

When an exit re-entry visa is issued for 60, 90, or 120 days, it remains valid for three months for travel starting from the date of issuance. The visa’s total duration is calculated from the actual date of travel. However, if a visa specifies a return period in days, the validity is calculated from the issuance date.

How to Extend an Exit and Re-Entry Visa

The Jawazat has provided an online procedure for extending exit and re-entry visas for residents currently outside Saudi Arabia. Here’s how:

  • Residents or sponsors must pay the necessary fees through the Absher or Muqeem platforms.
  • After payment, the extension can be processed through the official online portals.
  • It is mandatory to settle the fees via Saudi banks using the official government payment method.

Fees for Visa Extension

The extension fees are as follows:

  • SAR 100 for single-entry visas.
  • SAR 200 for multiple-entry visas.

All fees must be paid before applying for an extension.

Important Conditions for Extension

Travelers must meet the following conditions to extend their exit and re-entry visa:

  • Their resident ID (Iqama) must be valid for at least 90 days at the time of extension.
  • Fees must be paid in advance.
  • The visa extension request must be initiated through Absher or Muqeem.

Final Notes

Always monitor the validity of your Iqama and visa before planning international travel to avoid penalties and disruptions. If you anticipate staying abroad longer than your initial visa duration, ensure you initiate the extension process early.
