Attorney General Says, Anti-graft Campaign Fruitful
Category: General

The campaign against corruption which was launched in November has been extremely successful, said Attorney General Saud Al-Moajib in a TV interview.

The anti-corruption committee under Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, has been able to specify many cases of corruption in public funds, Moajib was quoted as saying by Al-Hayat Arabic newspaper on Wednesday.

The committee was constituted by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to investigate all corruption crimes and bring the corrupt to justice. “The efforts of the committee have borne fruits and you will very soon hear good news,” he said.

“The Kingdom has started reaping the fruits of the war against corruption in all government establishments,” he said. Moajib said the Public Prosecution (PP) will continue dealing with corruption cases. He reiterated that the PP is determined to play an effective role in combating corruption.

The attorney general said the campaign against corruption will work its way through lower-level offences. “The campaign is ongoing as long as there is even a simple case (of corruption) ... and it will not end until (all) corruption cases are finished,” he said in the television interview in a clip posted online.

Immediately after its establishment, the committee detained a number of princes, ministers, senior government officials and businessmen who were suspected of corruption. Many of the accused settled their cases through payments of compensation. Some of the accused were acquitted and others preferred to go to the court.

The suspects were accused of money-laundering, bribery, blackmailing and exploitation of their positions to make personal gains. The Public Prosecution has established a number of specialized circuits under the Attorney General to deal promptly with cases of corruption.
