A total of 65 new health centers were opened last year raising the number of health centers under the Ministry of Health to 2,390 from 2,325, according to a report issued by the ministry. These new health centers have provided services to more than 300,000 citizens, the report said.
Some 39 of these new centers have extended working hours of up to 11 p.m. Now 204 health centers are working up to 11 p.m. as compared to the earlier 165 centers. With these new health centers the ministry aims to reduce crowding and meet the needs of citizens.
Additional manpower, including doctors, has been provided to these health centers. The medical and administrative staff have been provided training. The ministry has launched an initiative to reform and restructure primary health care under the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020.
This is part of the 40 initiatives aimed at developing health care services and facilities to meet the society’s requirements.
