Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports has announced conditions allowing employers to issue final exit visas for domestic workers during their 90-day probationary period, even if a residency permit has not yet been issued.
The service is available electronically through the Absher platform, enabling employers to complete final exit procedures for eligible domestic workers during the probationary period.
Conditions for Issuing a Final Exit Visa
Under the applicable conditions, the domestic worker:
- Must not be registered as deceased or reported absent from work.
- Must be inside Saudi Arabia when the final exit visa is issued.
- Must have no outstanding traffic violations.
- Must hold a passport valid for at least 60 days.
Probationary Period for Domestic Workers
Under regulations issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, employers and domestic workers must enter into a written employment contract. The contract may include a probationary period of up to 90 days.
The probationary period allows employers to assess a domestic worker’s professional competence and personal conduct before deciding whether to continue the employment relationship on a longer-term basis.
Termination During Probation
Both the employer and the domestic worker have the right to terminate the employment contract unilaterally during the probationary period, subject to the applicable regulations and contractual terms.
A domestic worker may not be placed on probation more than once with the same employer. However, a new probationary period may be agreed upon if both parties consent and the worker is assigned a different occupation from the one covered by the initial probationary period.
