According to Saudi Arabia's Consumer Protection Association, airlines are required to pay compensation to passengers whose baggage is delayed during flight.
When baggage delivery is delayed, the Air Carrier must compensate passengers in SDR (Special Drawing Rights).
While domestic passengers are entitled to compensation equivalent to 20 SDRs for each day of delay, with a maximum compensation of 100 SDRs.
The compensation for international flights is equivalent to 40 SDRs per day of delay, with a maximum of 200 SDRs.
SDRs (Special Drawing Rights) are units of account used by the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and other international organizations. A potential claim on the freely usable currencies of IMF members, not a currency.
When the airlines must pay compensation in SDR units, here it will be converted to Saudi Riyals.
In addition, the Ministry revealed the consumer's rights if the airline reduced his seat. The passenger has the right to receive compensation for the entire price difference between the original passenger class and the class in which he traveled when alternative seats are available on the same flight in a lower class.
Consumer Protection Association says the refund is equal to the difference between the original class and the alternative lower class on which a passenger is boarded during the flight.
As a result of the lowering of the class, the consumer should receive an additional compensation of 50% of the refund. This compensation should not be substituted for any other compensation or refund for damages caused by the lowering of the class.
- If the consumer terminates the contract, he is entitled to the full value of the ticket (the unutilized itinerary) plus compensation equal to 100% of that refund. According to the Consumer Protection Association, additional compensation should not be considered an alternative to any other compensations or refunds resulting from the rejection of boarding.
