Category: General

The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) is participating in “Saudi Design Week” as a strategic partner at the event’s sixth edition, taking place from November 5-9, 2019, at the Riyadh Front. Ithra’s pavilion at Saudi Design Week is featuring select offerings from Tanween, Ithra’s creativity season festival, which successfully concluded last month. Saudi Design Week held under the theme “Designing Happiness”, aims to showcase artistic and creative innovation while also highlighting the positive impact designs and art have on society.

Abdullah Al-Rashid, Ithra’s Head of Programs, said: “Ithra’s participation in Saudi Design Week as a strategic partner falls under the Center’s commitment to support Saudi talent and to showcase creative content across local and global platforms. Saudi Design Week provides visitors with the opportunity to experience the societal benefit of design in an innovative and interactive way. The event, similar to Ithra, additionally supports in contributing toward bolstering the Kingdom’s knowledge-based economy as well as its social and cultural diversification based on Vision 2030.”

Saudi Design Week provides a variety of cultural and recreational activities for visitors including a series of workshops, lectures and interactive art performances. This year’s event is featuring several new highlights from Tanween, and is set to include the inclusion of the “Talk Zone” artwork, which serves as the backdrop from the event stage, adding a unique aesthetic for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, the event will showcase an installation previously on display at Ithra, composed of colored balls that refer to the sands of the Kingdom in various forms and colors. The activities, previously part of Ithra’s creativity season, highlight the Kingdom’s rich culture within a creative and interactive environment.

Ithra’s interactive pavilion at the event will bring Tanween’s popular offerings to Design Week audiences and will include the popular “Glow Forth” experience as well as Tanween Challenges. “Glow Forth” provides a glow-in-the-dark recharge beverage venue offering luminescent superfood juices and refreshments that stimulate the mind and body. The pavilion additionally offers a series of challenges featured at Tanween’s 2019 “Play” theme, helping visitors find creative solutions and proposals that deal with design and aim to develop skills for all age groups and interests.

During the event Abdullah Al-Hawwas, Creative Programs Coordinator at Ithra’s Idea Lab, will present a workshop entitled “From Science Fiction to Reality”, which will explore the transition period and recent discoveries brought about by the phenomenon “Internet of Things”; and how it has become an effective tool in facilitating daily tasks. Rabah Alabdulqader, Creative Programs Coordinator at Ithra’s Idea Lab, will also  speak on  “Stories, Sound and Senses in the City”.

Ithra is a creative and interactive cultural destination championing innovation diversity, celebrating creativity and encouraging collaboration via its programming and partnerships with the objective of energizing Saudi Arabia’s knowledge economy as well as its cultural and creative industries.
