Air carriers that meet the Authority's overflight requirements can operate in Saudi Arabia's airspace, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
A statement issued by the authority on Friday explained that the decision was made in order to fulfill the country's obligations under the Chicago Convention.
To complement the Kingdom's efforts to consolidate its position as a global hub connecting three continents and to enhance international air connectivity, the Chicago Convention of 1944 stipulates non-discrimination between civil aircraft used in international air navigation.
