According to a TV report, Saudi Arabia plans to include low-cost insurance in domestic labour contracts to compensate employers in case of contractual disruptions, including the worker's escape.
Saudi TV Al Ekhbariya reported that the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development will soon announce that recruitment firms will inform beneficiaries of insurance when they sign labour contracts.
Television added that an insurance policy protecting the recruiter's right would be provided at affordable prices in case the house worker escaped, became ill, died, or wished not to continue working.
The contract will include insurance. Accordingly, on contracting with the recruitment office to get domestic labour, an insurance price will be included, it elaborated.
The new provision is not yet effective.
Saudi Arabia and Indonesia signed a deal last week allowing Indonesian house workers to return to the kingdom after an 11-year hiatus.
